Most of us are familiar with the terminology “worship”, “lordship”, and “discipleship”. Contemporary christianity is comfortable using these words in most church settings. But the term “headship” reflects the relationship between ourselves and other believers as fellow members of Jesus’ body and Jesus the “head”. A deeper look at 1 Corinthians 11 – 14 inspires us to reflect upon our independence. After careful study we see that the head harmonizes the needs, hopes and dreams of the body. We need to think about our relationship to the body. Is there independence or generosity? Is there thought or impulsivity? Taking communion in an unworthy manner is giving no thought or consideration for Jesus’ body. Ask this week, “Jesus, what do you want me to give to the body or the next gathering?” This is the restoration of headship to our community worship.
