These past 3 weeks we have been discussing whether or not to merge our two house churches back together for a short time. With only 14 disciples, we thought that this dialogue would be easy. Not.
Disciples are passionate people. They follow the most passionate human that ever lived, Jesus Christ. After seven days of dialogue, one of our house churches was unanimous in favor of merging. The other’s majority leaned toward staying separate, with a fervent minority vocalizing dissent. There were a few follow up phone calls and apologies that had to be made. Fortunately for us, Jesus was also a peacemaker!
Our current plan is to address our weak spots without rushing to merge. At the same time, we are meeting twice this month in midweek potlucks to reinforce our relationships. Stay tuned later this month for Building Consensus Part Two.
